There’s only one trick to save money. If you know this trick you won’t need rules, hints, tips, or other information. I’ll tell you the secret to saving and why it is so easy.
If you Google ‘tricks to save”, you will find millions of sites with millions of results. With all of these tricks out there, why are we still searching for more ways to save money? Is the answer really out there? Yes it is, and I’ll bet you already know it.
Here’s a little story …
A friend asked me “What movie do you like?” Without hesitation I answered ‘The Matrix’. The year was 1999 and ‘The Matrix’ was revolutionizing special effects, but that’s not the only reason I enjoyed it. The film looks at a world with two realities: one is the life we live every day and the other is hidden behind the first. The first reality is a dream. The second is The Matrix. In the film the instructor, Morpheus, asks the main character, Neo, a question that has continued to stick with me: “Have you ever had a dream you were so sure was real?”
At one point in the movie while teaching Neo to fight, Morpheus utters a simple sentence of pure philosophy. So simple your grandfather could have said it:
“Come on! Stop trying to hit me and hit me!”
This is exactly what you have to do to start saving, this is the only trick that works,
“Come on! Stop trying to save and save!”
STOP TRYING TO SAVE AND SAVE!
What I mean…
Stop wasting time thinking about ways to try to save money. You have to stop thinking about it. What you need to do is SAVE.
As soon as you’re done reading this post, get in your car, go to your bank, and do these two things:
- Open a savings account that is not linked to any of your checking accounts. (over-drafting from checking accounts kills your savings)
- Set up an automatic transfer of 10% of your monthly income from your checking to this new savings account.
That’s it. Now you’re saving money. Congratulations !!
Seriously, drop the tricks, the tips, the advice, the reading, and the thinking about saving at once!!
What will happen after you do this?
In the film, Neo begins to perceive the reality of the Matrix and realizes that there is an art to WILL. Will is the source of true strength. Will is what turns ideas into reality.
In your life, if you walk into your bank and demand that they take 10% of your income and put it in a savings account, you are no longer thinking about saving, you are saving.
What will happen now that you have 10% less money to spend?
